Dr. Chowdhury recently returned to academia after spending 17 years in corporate, joining the Indian School of Business (ISB) as Executive Director to lead the
(1) Munjal Institute for Global Manufacturing
(2) Punj-Lloyd Institute for Infrastructure Management.
He is a Senior Associate Dean and Practice Professor of Operations Management and Information Systems at the ISB. In his last academic stint, Dr. Chowdhury was a Professor, Dean (Academy), Chairman (Board of Research), and Member (Board of Governors) at NITIE (National Institute of Industrial Engineering, established as a joint initiative between United Nations and Government of India in 1963).
Before joining ISB, Dr. Chowdhury served Dassault Systèmes , initially as the Managing Director (over 4.5 years) of Dassault Systèmes India and subsequently Vice President (Global Affairs & Business Development). He was instrumental in developing and expanding the company’s footprint across several sectors in corporate, government, and academic sectors. As Vice President (Global Affairs and Business Development), Dr. Chowdhury studied the challenges of our economy and the aspirations of the government and prepared a road map for accelerating the growth of the nation through digital transformation. He evolved Dassault Systèmes’ mission to drive business in the government and public sector, aligning the company’s technology and platform with the country’s national agenda.
Dr. Chowdhury defined new engagement and business models, focusing on the government’s initiatives in areas like ‘Make in India’, urban transformation, digital India, smart cities and developing canters-of-excellence for creating industry-ready professionals to increase employability and interactions with senior scientists. He took on the mission to accelerate sustainable growth of India’s economy by leveraging new generation technology, platform and applications. He was also responsible for driving similar strategies in the neighbouring countries.
Before joining Dassault Systemes, Dr. Chowdhury was Country Manager, Software Group, Strategic Accounts in IBM. As a Country Manager, Strategic Accounts, Software Group at IBM, responsible for driving all IBM software brands, including industry solutions in the public & government sector and a select set of corporate accounts. He managed large accounts in sectors like defence, paramilitary forces, railways and all its sister organizations, Department of Post, defence manufacturing organizations, Government accounts like ministries, and large corporate and utility companies.
He was also the Chairman Cum Managing Director Invigorare Solutions Pvt. Ltd. He created a multi-national company that provided management and IT solution to customers across the globe to rejuvenate organization, provide strength and enable organization to be globally competitive.
Dr. Chowdhury did his MS in Mechanical Engineering and has a double Doctorate. Dr. Chowdhury has been associated with several business transformation initiatives, both in the government and private sectors in leading organizations. Dr. Chowdhury has been the recipient of numerous awards, and his particular areas of interest are innovation and ‘Technology-Enabled Business Transformation”. He is passionate about leveraging technology to make the world a better place to live in. He shall be speaking on “Technology Enables Business Transformation”
